How to Play Blackjack

Playing Blackjack starts by both the player and dealer receiving two cards each at the start of the game – players' cards are dealt in clockwise order, face-up and the dealer keeps one of his cards face-down (the Hole Card) and the other face-up. The player then decides whether he would like to Stand and keep his hand, or Hit to take more cards from the deck until he believes he can compete with the hand of the Dealer - all the while the player tries not to go over 21, if he does, he loses (busts). An ideal winning scenario, called ”Blackjack” or ”Natural 21”, is to be dealt an Ace with any other ten-point card such as 10, J, Q or K. In the case that both the player and the Dealer have a Blackjack, the result is a 'push' (a tie).

Once players have decided whether to stand, bust or play any side bets, the Dealer then reveals his hidden Hole Card. If the Dealer gets Blackjack, he will not draw anymore cards and all players who do not hold Blackjack lose. If the player does indeed have a Blackjack, the bet is returned.

If the Dealer does not reach Blackjack, he can decide whether to Hit or Stand judging by the value of his hand. However, if the value of the cards is lower than 17, he has no choice but to Hit and in most cases of various black jack games when dealer has 17 or more dealer is forced to stay.

Playing Blackjack - The Showdown

If the Dealer goes bust, all active players win. If the Dealer does not bust, all active players holding higher point values than the Dealer win, whilst those with lower values lose and ones with even score result to push and the bet is returned.
